The Upstage Players invites audiences to Neil Simon’s most famous play, The Odd Couple, Female Version presented at the Littleton Opera House on November 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, & 10. Well known Oscar and Felix have been transformed by the playwright into Olive Madison and Florence Unger in the retelling of Simon’s classic play. Olive lives a casual carefree lifestyle after separating from her husband and has no issue letting the papers pile up and the dishes crust over in the sink. This doesn’t stop her from inviting Florence to move in when her marriage falls apart, even though everyone knows Florence can’t cope with a single thing being out of place. The female version may set in the 80s where the ladies gather for trivial pursuit instead of poker, but the same sparks still fly as Olive and Florence waste no time getting on each other’s nerves. Uptight meets laid back in hilarious ways as the ladies gather for game night and when the Costazuela brothers come calling on date night. We can all relate to living with someone who doesn’t necessarily operate the same way we do!
Directed by Becky Cummings, the cast stars Upstage favorites Naomi Going as Olive Madison and Jennifer Donovan as Florence Unger. Their group of friends are played by Jessie Griffiths, Holly Burbank, Renee Blacken, and Crystal Knapp. Andrew Lidestri and Jake Blankenship round out the group as the over the top Costazuela brothers new to America and interested in our leading ladies. With Neil Simon’s passing last year, many theatre companies are doing a play to honor his memory. The female version of the Odd Couple is a carefully crafted timeless look into how different we all live our lives. Upstage is excited to bring this very funny female driven play to the stage at the Littleton Opera House.
