The Story: This incredibly famous and long beloved Tony winning musical has touched audiences worldwide with its humor, warmth and honesty, for over 60 years. The tale of Tevye and his family’s struggles in a changing Russia is a true musical theatre tradition. Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

This family musical provides opportunities for a variety of talented performers. There are dances, but Fiddler is not a dance-heavy show. It is a great opportunity for actors and singers of all ages. We are looking for a diverse cast to make up many little village families.

"Fiddler on the Roof" will be directed by Andrew Lidestri for Theatre UP. The show will rehearse & perform at the Littleton Opera House. Rehearsals begin August 28th and will take place most Wednesday & Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Performance dates are November 8, 9, 10, 15, 16 & 17 with two performances on both Saturdays, one at 2:00PM and one at 7:30PM.

FAST TRACK AUDITION POLICY: MUSICALS
This policy is intended to save time in auditioning and casting for the benefit of the production. UP makes a firm commitment to show no favoritism amongst its performers or production teams. WHO: RETURNING ACTORS To be considered for a role: Any actor that sang more than a single SOLO line in an UP musical from the current or previous season may request to be Fast-Tracked to the callbacks for that production IF the director of the productions is the same. To be considered for ensemble roles (where appropriate): Any actor that sang in an UP musical from the current or previous season may request to be Fast-Tracked to the callbacks for that production IF the director of the productions is the same. Each play has specific needs and the final decision of fast tracking will be left to the discretion of the director of the production and the artistic director of the company. |
