Mary Madsen
Academy & Studio Instructor
Mary is thrilled to bring her love of the performing arts to the North Country after spending over 20 years performing in New York City. She holds a BFA and began her artistic journey as a dancer before finding her home in immersive theater. For more than a decade, she worked with Third Rail Projects, a pioneering force in immersive theater, on several productions. She performed in more than 1,000 performances of their Bessie Award–winning production Then She Fell and also served as a rehearsal director. She collaborated with a range of choreographers and artists throughout her career in traditional stage, site-specific, and experiential performance works that bridge dance and theater.
As a teacher, Mary loves fostering curiosity, creativity, empathy, and fun. She is passionate about helping young artists build confidence, take creative risks, and discover their own unique voice. Mary is excited to be part of the UP community and looks forward to sharing, learning, and growing alongside its young performers.
