"Assassins" Auditions Completed - The show has been cast!
LOOKING TO FIND THE ENSEMBLE CAST OF ASSASSINS!
Theatre UP, formerly Upstage Players, announces auditions for its winter production of Stephen Sondheim & John Weidman’s musical Assassins.
Auditions will be held at the Littleton Opera House Thursday, Dec. 1st, 6 – 9:30 pm Sunday, Dec. 4th, 6 - 8 pm. Callbacks to follow on the 4th as needed. NOTE: Assassins is a dark musical with strong language and violent situations. It will carry an R rating. We will be auditioning adults and older teens. There is, however, one role for a young boy aged 8 - 14. |
Assassins is an exploration of the American Dream gone awry. It lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical "revusical" that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman, bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.
UP is a welcoming and nondiscriminatory organization. We are looking for an incredibly diverse and inclusive cast. We encourage community members to attend regardless of age, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and/or experience.
Interested actors are asked to prepare a short song they know well, preferably from musical theatre repertoire. Please bring sheet music. Singing with accompaniment is strongly preferred. An accompanist will be provided. Actors may be asked to read from the script.
Assassins will be directed by Andrew Lidestri, Artistic Director for Theatre UP. All roles are open and a full character breakdown is available on our website. All roles, including the ensemble will be significant. The show will rehearse and perform at the Littleton Opera House. Rehearsals begin December 7 and will take place most Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well as Sunday afternoons. We’ll rehearse for two weeks in December, take off two weeks for the holidays and begin again at the beginning of January. Performance dates are February 10,11,12,17,18, & 19.
TECH AND PRODUCTION HELP! Any theater lovers not interested in being on stage but interested in working with set crews, prop and tech production or costuming are encouraged to email us at [email protected]. UP is a welcoming community theatre excited to work with people of all levels of experience.
