The same great album.  American Idiot has all the great songs from the original 2004 album but also includes a few additional numbers from Green day's 2009 Album "21st Century Breakdown"

The Story: This punk rock musical follows the story of three young men, Johnny, Will and Tunny. Johnny and Tunny flee a stifling suburban lifestyle and parental restrictions, while Will stays at home to work out his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Heather. The former pair look for meaning in life and try out the freedom and excitement of the city. Tunny quickly gives up on life in the city, joins the military and is shipped off to war. Johnny turns to drugs and finds a part of himself that he grows to dislike, has a relationship and experiences lost love.

Our Modern Time: The young men and women of American Idiot feel suppressed and forgotten by their community, their government, and their families.  They struggle to find their voices.  They crave social change and see through the crap of a government concerned with the wealthy far more than those who struggle.  They turn to drugs and sex as an escape from it all.  They look for stability in the wrong places.  This is the ten year anniversary of American Idiot ..... the themes still feel strong and ring true.
