What to Prepare
Auditioners are asked to prepare a one-minute dramatic monologue from contemporary theatre literature. Actors may be asked to read from the script.
What's a Contemporary monologue, you ask?
A contemporary monologue is a speech or performance drawn from a play written within the 20th or 21st century. It's often characterized by more colloquial language and a focus on contemporary issues or concerns, reflecting the evolving nature of theatrical and dramatic works.
While The Crucible contains some heightened language and is set in an earlier time, Miller's writings are considered contemporary theatre.
If you're not used to memorizing a monologue to audition with, don't let this scare you ... you can literally Google "contemporary monologues for women" or something similar and get lots of options to help you!
