Audition Information for "Something Rotten"
The Story: Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as William Shapespeare. When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz.
What we’re looking for: This fun musical has opportunities for a huge variety of talented performers. Seeking Actors, Singers, & Dancers of all experience levels with an excitement for theatre, desire to have fun, and drive to work hard. We will be casting high school through adult ages. All roles are open.

How to PrepareAuditioners are asked to prepare a short song they know well, preferably from musical theatre repertoire. Please bring sheet music. Singing with accompaniment is preferred, and one will be provided.
Come dressed to move. A short dance combination will be taught. Actors may be asked to read from the script. |

"Something Rotten" will be directed by Andrew Lidestri for Theatre UP. The show will rehearse & perform at the Littleton Opera House. Rehearsals begin March 2nd and will take place most Wednesday & Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Performance dates are May 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 & 18.
NEW AUDITION POLICY: MUSICALS
This policy is intended to save time in auditioning and casting for the benefit of the production. UP makes a firm commitment to show no favoritism amongst its performers or production teams. WHO: RETURNING ACTORS To be considered for a role: Any actor that sang more than a single SOLO line in an UP musical from the current or previous season may request to be Fast-Tracked to the callbacks for that production IF the director of the productions is the same. To be considered for ensemble roles (where appropriate): Any actor that sang in an UP musical from the current or previous season may request to be Fast-Tracked to the callbacks for that production IF the director of the productions is the same. Each play has specific needs and the final decision of fast tracking will be left to the discretion of the director of the production and the artistic director of the company. |
